Permitted equipment

 

To compete in a triathlon, the necessary kit is important. The equipment permitted for the Garmin Triathlon de Paris is that authorised by the F.F.TRI. 2016 sports regulations (in French).

Below is the list of equipment that is or is not permitted per event:

Swimming

Permitted equipment

‐ Triple-purpose protective suit
‐ Neoprene wetsuit (triathlon or diving) with or without a hood (compulsory if the water temperature fall below 16°C)
‐ Shortie wetsuit
‐ Swimming cap
‐ Swimming goggles or mask
‐ Nose clip

Equipment not permitted

‐ Flippers
‐ Hand paddles
‐ Gloves
‐ Boots
‐ Snorkel
‐ Lifejacket or float

 

Cycling

Permitted equipment

‐ Road bike, city bike or mountain bike
‐ Hard-shell cycling helmet with the Kite mark COMPULSORY
‐ Handlebar extensions
‐ Cycle shoes or trainers
‐ Plastic water bottle
‐ Race number belt (race number at the front)

 

Equipment not permitted

  ‐ Electric bike, recumbent bike or fixed-gear (bike without brakes)
  ‐ Bike without a braking system on one of the wheels
  - Extension which exceeds the brake lever hoods or is 15cm beyond the front wheel axle* 
  - Extension not bridged at the front
  ‐ Long mountain bike extensions or tips
  - Helmet not specific to cycling (motorbiking, climbing...)
  - Glass container
  ‐ Radios, mobile phones, MP3 players, personal stereos or any other headphones
- Wheels with fewer than 16 spokes

 

Running

Permitted equipment

‐ Cap
‐ Race number belt

 

Equipment not permitted

‐ Bike helmet
‐ Radios, mobile phones, MP3 readers, personal stereos or any other headphones

 

* Extensions or clip-ons must be bridged at the front with a fixed trade device (without clip-on or personal adaptation) provided that they do not extend 15cm beyond the front wheel axle and do not exceed the foremost line of the brake levers.
