The equipment used to compete in a triathlon varies from event to event. The equipment permitted for the Garmin Triathlon de Paris is that authorised by the French Triathlon Federation sporting regulations.
Swimming
Authorised equipment
- Triple-purpose protective suit
- Triathlon or diving neoprene suit with or without a hood (mandatory at water temperatures below 16 °C, banned at temperatures over 24,5 °C)
- Shortie wetsuit
- Swimming cap
- Swimming goggles or mask
- Nose clip
Banned equipment
- Swim fins
- Hand paddles
- Gloves
- Boots
- Snorkel
- Life jacket or float
Cycling
Authorised equipment
- Road bike, city bike or mountain bike
- Rigid cycling helmet that meets current safety standards (MANDATORY)
- Handlebar extensions*
- Cycle shoes or trainers
- Plastic water bottle
- Race number belt (race number at the back)
Banned equipment
- Electric bike, recumbent bike, unicycle, fixed-gear (brake-less) bike
- Bike without a braking system on either of the two wheels
- Extension that goes beyond the brake hoods or more than 15 cm beyond the front wheel axle*
- Extension not bridged at the front
- Long MTB extension or tips
- Helmet not specific to cycling (motorbiking, climbing, etc.)
- Glass container
- Radios, mobile phones, MP3 players, personal stereos or any other headphones
- Wheels with fewer than 16 spokes
* Extensions or clip-ons must be bridged at the front with a fixed trade device (without clip-on or personal adaptation) provided that they do not go further than 15 cm beyond the front wheel axle and do not exceed the foremost line of the brake levers.
